Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) plan to table or dismiss impeachment charges against Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas will ravage the upper chamber’s already declining authority by “nuking the Constitution,” according to Senate Republican conservatives.
That fear is one of two at the heart of the GOP lawmakers’ intensive nearly week-long push to pressure Mr. Schumer into not interfering with what would be only the second Senate impeachment trial of a presidential cabinet member in American history.
